Transforming education for underserved communities through innovative solutions
Tent2School Education Initiative was founded on October 1st, 2022 with a simple goal: to make education accessible to displaced and underserved children. What began as a humble movie screening to draw children into learning quickly evolved into a mission-driven movement powered by youth, volunteers, and purpose.
We recognized early on that many children in crisis-affected communities were being left behind, not because they lacked the potential to learn, but because they lacked the opportunity. In response, we launched our flagship Accelerated Curriculum Learning Project, built on the Teaching at the Right Level model, Universal Design for Learning principles and carefully adapted for Education in Emergencies.
Since then, Tent2School has reached over 800 children with foundational education, trained more than 50 volunteer teachers, and established three active learning centers. We've led impactful initiatives ranging from medical outreach, tree planting, relief distribution, food and fertilizer support to skill acquisition training and strategic community advocacy. One of our proudest moments was convening a townhall meeting that led to the Charter of Education for Adamawa State, an advocacy milestone for equity in learning.
Our mission is to tackle the barriers that militate against access to quality education in underserved communities. We started small—holding classes under trees before moving into makeshift tents and then building structured learning spaces that now serve as hubs of hope and resilience. Along the way, we’ve hosted book reading sessions, conducted assessments, and deepened community engagement through entry dialogues and learning outreach.
Guided by our commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality), 1 (No Poverty), and 13 (Climate Action), Tent2School continues to drive education as a tool for human dignity, inclusion, and long-term recovery.
By 2030, we aim to establish 200 learning centers, directly impacting 50,000 children and training 1,000 teachers across Nigeria.
At Tent2School, we're committed to achieving these fundamental objectives:
Since our inception, Tent2School has made significant strides in transforming education for Nigeria's most vulnerable children:
In conflict-affected regions of Northeast Nigeria, we've established over 3 learning centers that serve over 800 displaced children, providing them with not just education but also psychosocial support and a sense of normalcy.
In rural communities where schools were non-existent or severely under-resourced, our tent classrooms have become hubs of learning and community development. We've seen school enrollment increase by 75% in communities where we operate, with particular growth in girls' enrollment.
Beyond infrastructure, our teacher training programs have empowered 50+ local educators with modern teaching methodologies, creating a ripple effect of educational improvement that extends beyond our direct programs.
