Launched as a response to the learning crisis among out-of-school and vulnerable children, the project combines the Teaching-at-the-Right-Level (TaRL) approach and universal design for learning (UDL) principles with innovative tools like rechargeable radios for audio learning and mobile book-box libraries to increase access to quality learning materials.

Tent2School concluded the 16 Days of Activism with the Allies for Her Dialogue, held at the American University of Nigeria. The event brought together speakers, panelists, and key stakeholders to engage in open dialogue on the different forms of gender-based violence and the critical role of men and boys as allies in prevention and response. During the event, Tent2School also launched two books from the Tent2School Children Series, officially unveiled by the President of the American University of Nigeria, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to education, advocacy, and child-centred change.

Tent2School implemented the Safe Schools, Safe Futures workshop across multiple schools, including St. Theresa Academy Jimeta, GDSS Karewa Jimeta, and Abishack Memorial Academy, in partnership with other CSOs. The sessions engaged girls, boys, and teachers on digital safety and technology-facilitated gender-based harm. Boys participated in discussions on positive masculinity and responsible digital behaviour, girls explored online risks, protection, awareness, and confidence, while teachers reflected on how language and attitudes can enable harm and were introduced to referral pathways to support affected learners.

To mark the start of the 16 Days of Activism, Tent2School launched the Hands for Peace event at Damare IDP Camp, Girei, engaging over 100 children. Through face painting and handprints in orange paint, children expressed solidarity and joy while taking a visible stand against all forms of gender-based violence, reinforcing messages of safety, dignity, and peace in the camp.

Tent2School in collaboration with Today for Tomorrow Initiative and Brook Initiative conducted the Safe Spaces, Strong Voices workshop with women and adolescent girls at the Damare IDP camp, Girei creating a supportive environment for open dialogue. The session focused on confidence-building, understanding rights, identifying risks, and encouraging self-expression, enabling girls to speak up and participate more actively in their learning and community life.

Tent2School in collaboration with Rise to Inspire Africa organized the Men and Boys as Allies workshop to engage boys and young men in conversations on respect, responsibility, and positive masculinity. Through guided discussions and practical activities, participants reflected on social norms and their role in promoting safer, more inclusive spaces for girls and peers within the camp and schools.

In August, Tent2School conducted a school feeding and livelihoods support distribution at Fombina IDP Camp. We provided farm produce for school meals and distributed fertilizers and basic farm inputs to parents and caregivers to strengthen household livelihoods. This support aimed to reduce economic pressures that limit children’s access to quality education and improve food security within the community.

The outreach provided free medical consultations, blood pressure checks, hepatitis testing and vaccinations, and engaging health talks focused on malaria and hepatitis awareness and prevention. Through this initiative, we were able to reach and support over 300 adults and 200 children, offering much-needed care and information to improve community well-being.

As part of our efforts to promote literacy and preserve cultural identity, Tent2School hosts special book reading session in camps and reading centres for children of school age. One of such was held at the Fombina IDP Camp, featuring a collection of culturally relevant books tailored to the lived experiences of the children in the camp. The session brought together eager young readers and volunteers in an engaging atmosphere that celebrated language, heritage, and the power of stories.

In response to the devastating floods that submerged homes and farmlands along the riverbank, we provided critical relief materials, including clothing and recovery grants to the most vulnerable families. To support affected farmers and prevent looming food insecurity, we also donated fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds to enable them replant and recover ahead of the next farming season.

Tent2School convened a high-level Town Hall Meeting to share research insights from a recent study on the state of primary education across selected local governments in Adamawa State. The event served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and action, bringing together key stakeholders committed to transforming education in the state. This project was proudly supported by the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund and LEAP Africa, through the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI).

Developed a Chapter of Demand for Basic Education in Adamawa State
As part of our sustainability strategy, we established Climate Change Clubs in 8 school and supported the planting of over 500 trees between July 2023 and June 2024. These clubs continue to serve as hubs for climate action and peer-led environmental awareness, with ongoing engagement and support from our team.
